Road trip to Chicago

February 2026

A long drive north from Nashville that slowly turned into night. Hours out from the city the landscape filled with miles of red lights from wind turbines blinking across the horizon, stretching further than we could see. As we got closer, Chicago signs began appearing along the interstate and the glow of downtown slowly emerged ahead of us.

By the time we arrived the skyline was already lit. The next morning the scale of the city felt enormous — towers close together, streets full of movement, Lake Michigan opening up beside it all. We walked through downtown, past the Bean and the world’s largest Starbucks, watching the rhythm of the streets. One of the quietest moments came by the water, where a couple stood looking out over the lake, taking in the city around them.
